• Me + Marlon is a sculptural work presented as a photograph, combining a self-portrait with a depiction of the actor Marlon Brando. Although the sculpture was created in miniature, the artist uses photography to enhance the life-size illusion of a publicity still with herself assuming the role of the female lead. In this rare self-portrait Fowler overtly exploits the experience of cinema, where we as the participant superimpose ourselves into the arms of the matinee idol. With Hollywood arguably trading on the idea of such an imagined meeting, Me + Marlon explores the notion and challenges the warning: ‘never meet your idols’.
